Canned light

The mason jar, patented in 1858, is used more than ever in millions of homes across Canada and the United States. It has become an icon of rural and urban craftsmanship. It evokes our ability to transform our daily lives according to our own personal recipe; an object that fits perfectly with Montreal's Mile-End neighborhood. The illumination project deploys 2,000 mason jars transformed into light fixtures on avenue du Parc. Equipped with a photoluminescent cell and a rechargeable battery, this light fixture becomes a sustainable installation that requires no wiring or energy source! Providing illumination for 4 to 6 hours a day. "Lumière en conserve" (Canned Light) revitalized Avenue du Parc for the spring and summer of 2015. The covered area extends over a length of 1.2 kilometers. The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture adopted the idea and deployed 5,000 customized solar jars in a neighborhood of Seoul in 2018.
