The NōKs

The NōKs is an educational, immersive, and interactive project deployed in museums and green spaces.

Unlike a traditional exhibition, "NŏKs" is experienced through a narrative. Far from a simple stroll punctuated by explanatory panels, visitors find themselves immersed in the heart of a living world. The pioneering scientist who discovered the NŏKs a few years ago guides us through the key points in various ways. Years of research, laboratory testing, and interpretation have made it possible to decode the language, knowledge, and concerns of the NŏKs. He shares deeply moving conversations with us. Their life is far from idyllic.

The NōKs

This small fictional community symbolises a society that has successfully harmonised the art of living with the advancements of environmental science to overcome climate challenges. The visit invites participants to escape their daily routine, offering a poetic and forward-looking glimpse of what the future could hold in terms of cohabitation with nature, a central element of the NŏKs' philosophy of life. It is said that this small humanoid colony has developed a collective intelligence that allows them to communicate instantly. They perceive the environment with more nuance than we do. Their language is inspired by the sounds of nature.

THE TEACHER

A university biologist and expert in mycological culture reportedly discovered this unknown species during a research expedition. Accompanied by his team of experts, the professor observed this new civilization. He and his team are documenting their research and remain fascinated by their ingenuity, collective organization, and great knowledge and understanding of the natural world around us.

In recent years, the professor and his team have discovered several Nŏk colonies across the world. For each new colony, one of the professor's teams sets up an observation laboratory and establishes contact with the new colony.

AN EDUCATIONAL PROJECT

From an educational perspective, the installation highlights concepts based on concrete advances in environmental sciences. The Forest Research Institute of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) acts as a scientific consultant, ensuring the integrity and veracity of the installation.

The content is reviewed by a scientific committee drawn from several areas of expertise in sustainable development. The Centrale Agricole de Montréal and La Maison du développement durable contribute their resources and expertise to the content.

ECO-DESIGN & RESEARCH

The project places eco-design at its core, both in the manufacturing of the installations and in the technological choices. Bio-based materials, the reuse of existing structures, working with living and organic matter, and limiting the impact of digital technology are all integral parts of this approach. These choices involve significant technical constraints but represent a fundamental axis of the project.
